Carol

such an well written book。the ending is my favorite part, how did that young girl full of love, hopes, dreams and happiness became so bitter, empty and sad? it’s love in its purest forms and then turning into something dark and painful

I'm sorry but I wasn't a fan at all of this one。 The writing was good and yes it kinda made the queen of hearts understandable in the end but it was so hard to get into but I kept at it and just finished。 I love the cinder series so really surprised that I don't like this one。 Ah well onto the next book。 I'm sorry but I wasn't a fan at all of this one。 The writing was good and yes it kinda made the queen of hearts understandable in the end but it was so hard to get into but I kept at it and just finished。 I love the cinder series so really surprised that I don't like this one。 Ah well onto the next book。 。。。more

W o w just w o w。This book was such a great read, it was everything and nothing I expected。 This is the 7th book by Marissa Meyer I've read and this author has yet to disappoint me。I actually can't put into words how good this book is, like I'm actually still shook with it。 Like the clever word play and alliteration had me hooked whilst simultaneously being entertained。 Reading it gave me a peculiar feeling (one similar to when watching Titanic) as we all know how the queen of hearts ends up, so W o w just w o w。This book was such a great read, it was everything and nothing I expected。 This is the 7th book by Marissa Meyer I've read and this author has yet to disappoint me。I actually can't put into words how good this book is, like I'm actually still shook with it。 Like the clever word play and alliteration had me hooked whilst simultaneously being entertained。 Reading it gave me a peculiar feeling (one similar to when watching Titanic) as we all know how the queen of hearts ends up, so it was like the more I continued reading the book the more hope I would have, even if I already knew how it would end。This book perfectly encompasses a theme that I strongly believe in- Villains aren't born, they are made。 。。。more

The protagonist was very compelling; you could admire her strength and bravery while also being annoyed with her wishy-washiness, and I think the contradictory nature of that duality added nuance and made her more realistic。 I loved how she had her own goals and ambitions。 I also think the general message about how fate cannot be avoided was interesting, as it made me think about how much power we actually have and whether our choices actually shape our futures。I could relate to Cath's struggle The protagonist was very compelling; you could admire her strength and bravery while also being annoyed with her wishy-washiness, and I think the contradictory nature of that duality added nuance and made her more realistic。 I loved how she had her own goals and ambitions。 I also think the general message about how fate cannot be avoided was interesting, as it made me think about how much power we actually have and whether our choices actually shape our futures。I could relate to Cath's struggle too: she doesn't want to disappoint her family and she knows the importance of maintaining her family's honor, but she also wants to follow her heart。 It's a war between what her mind's desire to be a dutiful daughter and her heart's desire to live out her dreams。 I'm sure many daughters in immigrant families can find a way to relate, one way or the other。Though the romance was a bit insta-lovey, Cath and Jest had great chemistry that made up for it。 I appreciated how Jest didn't have a personality switch as many love interests do as soon as mutual feelings are confirmed。 Jest just remained a kind, sweet, and devoted boy, and you can't not adore him。The ending was absolutely heartbreaking。 I'm not devastated because I felt more like an outsider watching the tragedy unfold than someone absolutely investing in the occurrences, but it was still a really good book。 。。。more

4。5 starsThis novel was so amazing, that I almost can't express my feelings towards it。It's so heartbreaking, and wonderful, and ugh I can't。 I have read just about all of Marissa's books, and I love her way of writing, world building, characters and their development, all of it。 I would recommend this to literally anyone。 If you haven't read this yet, what are you doing? Go read this extravagant tale of the Queen of Hearts and her backstory。 4。5 starsThis novel was so amazing, that I almost can't express my feelings towards it。It's so heartbreaking, and wonderful, and ugh I can't。 I have read just about all of Marissa's books, and I love her way of writing, world building, characters and their development, all of it。 I would recommend this to literally anyone。 If you haven't read this yet, what are you doing? I will start by saying that I have never watched Alice in Wonderland or any of the subsequent movies or stories。 I came into this only knowing that the Queen of Hearts was supposed to be evil and that this was about her journey and oh what a journey。 My heart is utterly torn at how I feel。 I have not laughed, cried, and felt terrible solace during a book like I have with Heartless。 It all started out feeling like 19th century british romance novel and later turned into a story full of magic and I will start by saying that I have never watched Alice in Wonderland or any of the subsequent movies or stories。 I came into this only knowing that the Queen of Hearts was supposed to be evil and that this was about her journey and oh what a journey。 My heart is utterly torn at how I feel。 I have not laughed, cried, and felt terrible solace during a book like I have with Heartless。 It all started out feeling like 19th century british romance novel and later turned into a story full of magic and whimsy taking Cath's journey from the mundane to anything but。 The love and hate that transpired was definitely felt。 Totally would recommend, as well as others under The Lunar Chronicles。 。。。more

Heartless was amazing。 A great spin to Alice in wonderland。 There was twist and turns that never stoped coming。 The characters felt so alive and real。 The way it ended I never saw coming but still was such a good book I am so glad I read it。

It was okay。 there are issues with the pacing at points that it seems like the author was dragging the book on and others where it was ending quickly。 I did not like the ending as it seemed like a rushed one in which the author wanted to end the book at the moment。 There are also several plot holes。 it was a fun read but not something I would read again。

Marissa Meyer escribe super bien, los personajes también te enganchan, pero vas leyendo y la trama no avanza, seguis leyendo y los personajes dan vueltas y vueltas, y te termina aburriendo。。。。

Oh my heart! I know this was going to be heartwrenching, but I didn't think it would be as bad as it was!! I highly recommend it, but have tissues and chocolate nearby。 Trust me。 Oh my heart! (A nice idea by-the-bye)。 How could she possibly write such a big plot at the end to make such a great, heroic ending? There it came, the main character went from something nice, sweet, sugary to someone super insecure (Yes, yes she is still a teenager, a child)。 Everything went to fast, but it’s ok。 It’s okay。 What could bad happen? *nervous laugh*She wanted to help her best friend Mary Ann and what happened after that? We all know what happened to Jest。 Such a tragedy!!My heart was broken, such a simple death。 And after that Cath went from an insecure hero to a 。。 how should I call her? A bad b*tch queen like in all those story’s with an evil queen。 Yikes!I understand that her heart was broken, there was nothing left to live for, but to not love her best friend since years, to just throw the friendship away? Kind of ridiculous。 “Off with his head。”One of my favorite, simple sentence in this book。AFTER ALL PLEASE NO HATE! It got 4 stars, because I got confused and I was a little disappointed at the last pages。I loved this book from the first seeing in the bookshop, to the last page in the story。It’s different, do not compare it with Alice in Wonderland!! 。。。more

“It is a dangerous thing to unbelieve something only because it frightens you。” This book was very interesting and I couldn't put it down。 I pretty much found out everything before the main character did。 The ending was very shocking to me and I don't really know how a feel about it honestly。 I am glad that I decided to read this book but not going to lie I was hoping for a different ending, but the ending just fits with the plot of Heartless and I can see why Marissa Meyer chose to end it that “It is a dangerous thing to unbelieve something only because it frightens you。” This book was very interesting and I couldn't put it down。 I pretty much found out everything before the main character did。 The ending was very shocking to me and I don't really know how a feel about it honestly。 I am glad that I decided to read this book but not going to lie I was hoping for a different ending, but the ending just fits with the plot of Heartless and I can see why Marissa Meyer chose to end it that way。 If you have been wondering whether or not to read this, read Heatless if its been on your TBR list for awhile。 I can't say much without spoiling the book so if you want to talk about this book more message me。 。。。more

HOLY。 MOLY。 I haven't had a book get me this hyped in a WHILE。 This book built me up and then gently destroyed me by dropping me off the cliffs of the story 😂 Does that even make sense??? I really enjoyed this book, easy to read and tragic story。

Angela

The plot was good but I can’t seem to find any kind of fondness for the main character。 I find it hard to relate to Catherine, nor do I find myself sympathetic to her plights。 She seems too self absorbed and swimming in privilege that she can barely acknowledge; in which she then turned her inner narrative into an almost victim complex。 I guess, overall I do see her as the Queen of Hearts even from the beginning。 Remember kids, always choose empathy。 They were all victims here。

Ratna

It was soooo slow in the beginning。 It took me forever to get into it。 As I got to the end, everything started to make sense though。 I just feel like 40% of the book was spent explaining so much, and it could’ve been shortened by a lot。 Definitely not my cup of tea。

My thoughts in brief: As far as worldbuilding and our main character go, Heartless is one hell of a treat。 Catherine, the baking-obsessed teenager Marissa Meyer has chosen as her future Queen of Hearts, is often impulsive, melodramatic, short-sighted, and selfish, but by letting the narration follow her with absolute conviction, Meyer crafts the makings of a wrenching tragedy。 In execution, however, she opts for a more conventional approach, rendering the drama she could've had irrelevant in the My thoughts in brief: As far as worldbuilding and our main character go, Heartless is one hell of a treat。 Catherine, the baking-obsessed teenager Marissa Meyer has chosen as her future Queen of Hearts, is often impulsive, melodramatic, short-sighted, and selfish, but by letting the narration follow her with absolute conviction, Meyer crafts the makings of a wrenching tragedy。 In execution, however, she opts for a more conventional approach, rendering the drama she could've had irrelevant in the powerful sway of destiny, and ultimately forfeiting her character work for a grizzly, grief-stricken villain origin story with a foregone conclusion。 My thoughts in full: https://thepigeon。co/2021/03/30/maris。。。 。。。more

This is so。。 Heart wrenchingly sad。 Marissa Meyer is such。。 An outstanding stories reteller。 I don't like Alice & Wonderland thing at all but I enjoyed this endlessly despite romance being main which isn't my thing。 Read up to CH31 then listened to the splendid narrator Rebecca Soler。 Absolutely brilliant! my only complaint is that Jest's voice is close to Cath's which confused me lots of times。 This is so。。 Heart wrenchingly sad。 Marissa Meyer is such。。 An outstanding stories reteller。 I don't like Alice & Wonderland thing at all but I enjoyed this endlessly despite romance being main which isn't my thing。 Read up to CH31 then listened to the splendid narrator Rebecca Soler。 Absolutely brilliant! my only complaint is that Jest's voice is close to Cath's which confused me lots of times。 。。。more
